One of the good news for the Ethiopian selection, it avoids the main favourite of its group and probably of the competition for its first match in this CAN.

According to Ethiopia’s calendar for CAN 2023-2024 which is played in Cameroon, the Walya will start the competition on Sunday, January 9, after the opening meeting between Burkina Faso and Cameroon, the host country of the African football competition. For its first match in this sporting competition, Ethiopia will be opposed to the selection of Cape Verde, just after the clash between the stallions and the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on January 9.

For their second match in Group A, Ethiopia will face their group’s main favourite, Cameroon. The meeting between the Indomitable Lions and the Walya is scheduled for Thursday, January 13 at 4:00 p.m., according to Ethiopia’s calendar at CAN 2023-2024.

For its last group match in this competition, the Ethiopian selection will be opposed to that of Faso, a meeting which promises to be decisive in the race for qualification, for each of the two football selections. This third meeting will be played at the same time as the country which will oppose Cameroon to Cape Verde, counting for the third day of the group stages of the CAN.

The Ethiopians could continue the sporting football competition, after the three matches counting for the group stages. For this, Ethiopia will have to surprise by finishing at the top of Group A, ahead of the main favourite, Cameroon. Another scenario that would see the Ethiopians continue the adventure in this African Cup of Nations, finishing in second place in group A.

In the worst case, the Walya will be able to get their ticket for the eighth by finishing among the best third in the competition. As a reminder, since the passage of the CAN to 24 Nations, the best third in the group stages have the opportunity to join the next four of the competition, namely the knockout stages of the African Cup of Nations.
